Waste Management Compliance

Comprehensive management of your waste streams — hazardous, e-waste, plastic, and biomedical — in full compliance with India's waste rules.

Manage Your Waste. Manage Your Risk.

Improper waste management is one of the most common — and most penalised — areas of environmental non-compliance in India. With frequently updated rules across hazardous waste, e-waste, plastic waste, and biomedical waste categories, staying current is a full-time job.

Greenovate takes this complexity off your plate. We conduct waste stream audits, classify waste correctly, design compliant storage and handling procedures, identify authorised disposal channels, and manage all regulatory filings.

Waste Categories We Cover

Detailed Sub-Services

Click any service below to expand full details — requirements, who needs it, penalties, timelines, and how Greenovate helps.

What is it?

Authorisation under HW (Management & Transboundary Movement) Rules 2016 — mandatory for any facility generating, storing, transporting, treating, or disposing of hazardous waste.

Why is it required?

Generating HW without authorisation is a criminal offence. SPCB inspections can result in closure orders, seizure of waste, and prosecution of directors and officers.

⚠ Penalty: Up to ₹1 crore + 7 years imprisonment

Who requires this?

  • Chemical, pharmaceutical, and paint manufacturers
  • Electroplating, tannery, and textile dyeing units
  • Automobile and engineering workshops
  • Hospitals generating chemical/cytotoxic waste

How Greenovate helps

  • Waste classification per Schedule I/II/III of HW Rules
  • Form 1 SPCB authorisation application filing
  • TSDF and authorised recycler identification
  • Form 3 record maintenance and Form 4 annual returns
  • Manifest management system setup

Annual Compliance

  • Form 4 annual return by 30 June every year
  • Maintain movement manifests for all consignments
  • Storage area to be inspection-ready at all times
  • 90-day storage limit strictly adhered to

Common Violations Found

  • Waste stored beyond 90-day limit without permission
  • Mixing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams
  • Untreated HW disposed with municipal solid waste
  • Expired or missing HW authorisation

Hazardous waste is the most frequently inspected compliance area. Don't let an expired authorisation shut your facility.

What is it?

Compliance with Biomedical Waste Management Rules 2016 — colour-coded segregation, temporary storage, and treatment/disposal through authorised CBWTF (Common Biomedical Waste Treatment Facilities).

Why is it required?

All healthcare facilities — even single-doctor clinics — must comply. SPCB conducts surprise inspections. Non-compliance leads to cancellation of establishment licences and criminal prosecution.

⚠ Penalty: Licence cancellation + ₹1 lakh fine per incident

Who requires this?

  • Hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics
  • Diagnostic labs and blood banks
  • Veterinary hospitals and research institutes
  • Pharma manufacturers with clinical/biological waste

How Greenovate helps

  • Annual SPCB authorisation application and renewal
  • Colour-coded segregation protocol and staff training
  • CBWTF tie-up and agreement management
  • Monthly bio-waste tracking and annual Form 4 returns
  • Inspection preparation and compliance calendar

BMW Rules compliance protects your staff, patients, and SPCB licence. Let us manage it completely on your behalf.

What is it?

Compliance with SWM Rules 2016 for bulk waste generators (100 kg+/day). C&D Waste Rules 2016 apply to projects generating 20 tonnes+ of construction debris. Both require segregation and authorised disposal.

Why is it required?

Bulk generators must demonstrate waste management compliance to the local body. Developers need a C&D Waste Management Plan as part of building plan approval. Fines are levied by urban local bodies.

Who requires this?

  • Hotels, malls, airports, and IT parks (bulk generators)
  • Real estate developers during construction phase
  • Industrial estates and SEZs
  • Event organisers and convention centres

How Greenovate helps

  • Waste audit and bulk generator registration
  • Composting, waste-to-energy, and recycling facility tie-ups
  • C&D Waste Management Plan for building plan approvals
  • Authorised C&D processor identification
  • Zero Waste to Landfill programme design

Sustainable waste management is required for green building certifications and ESG reporting. Let us design your system.

What is it?

A Zero Waste to Landfill programme systematically diverts 100% of waste from landfill through reduction, reuse, recycling, and recovery — achieving at least 98% diversion verified by a third party.

Why is it required?

Required for LEED Gold/Platinum, GRIHA 5-star, ISO 14001 waste management targets, and MNC parent company global ZWL commitments. Also improves BRSR waste diversion disclosures.

Who requires this?

  • Manufacturing plants targeting sustainability certifications
  • MNCs with global ZWL parent commitments
  • IT parks and corporate campuses
  • Hotels and resorts seeking green certification

How Greenovate helps

  • Waste stream audit and landfill diversion baseline
  • Waste minimisation and circular economy strategy
  • Recycler and co-processor network establishment
  • Monthly waste tracking dashboard
  • ZWL certification application support

Zero Waste to Landfill is achievable for most manufacturing plants in 12–18 months. Let's map your pathway together.

What is it?

Compliance with E-Waste (Management) Rules 2022 — covering producers, manufacturers, refurbishers, bulk consumers, and dismantlers/recyclers of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).

Why is it required?

Producers must register on the CPCB EPR portal, set annual e-waste collection targets, and ensure recycling through authorised dismantlers. Bulk consumers (corporates, IT firms) must channel e-waste through registered recyclers.

⚠ Penalty: EPR credit shortfall + CPCB show-cause notice

Who requires this?

  • Electronics and IT product manufacturers/importers
  • Large corporates replacing IT equipment (bulk consumers)
  • IT parks, data centres, and BPOs
  • Authorised e-waste recyclers and dismantlers

How Greenovate helps

  • CPCB EPR portal registration (producers and bulk consumers)
  • Annual e-waste collection target calculation
  • Authorised recycler identification and agreement drafting
  • Quarterly and annual CPCB return filing
  • EPR credit reconciliation and compliance monitoring

E-waste is one of the fastest-growing compliance obligations for India's IT sector. Let Greenovate set up your EPR system from scratch.
